Brown Divas Dolls

In honor of Junteenth, it was only right to showcase our beautiful melanin but in a different way... doll form. My cousin introduced me to this beautiful website called "Brown Divas Dolls," a business based out of Montreal, Canada. It is American Girl meets Black Girl Magic.

What is the company about?

The company caters to different skin tones, hair, and size of black ladies. This business is showing little black girls that we do not have one look and there is representation for all of us. They are raising self-esteem and breaking through in a market catered to a more European look. The company even does Divas Parties, which is when they bring their mascot to your child's birthday party and Destiny (company's official mascot) sings and dances with the kids.

What dolls can I choose from?

Brown Divas Dolls' mission is to offer little girls a new outlook of dolls, representing ethnic and cultural diversity. Children can pick the doll that they feel is a mirror of themselves. When you shop online the sections are Baby Diva for 2-3 years old, Young Diva for 3-4 years old, Diva for 5-8 years old, and Unique Divas for kids with unique features. The Unique Divas includes dolls such as Annie - Unique Baby Diva with Albinism and Valerie - Unique Baby Diva with Vitiligo Skin.

Meet the founder

The founder's name is Clara D. Lewis. She realized in her 40s the true beauty of her natural hair. Lewis was trying so hard to be like the European looking "cute doll," but did not realize her own beauty in her curls. She also believes exposing Caucasian children to black dolls will help them appreciate other identities different from them. So, these dolls are for EVERYONE - just like Barbies.

Have a wonderful Junteenth!
